While cleaning the greenhouse, and moving plants around (yet again) I noticed that a few of the lids on my S. 'Kimber Red Ruffles' have got a few spots of what appears to be powdery mildew. Now, they are in full color, packed and healthy ( I even had to get in there and somewhat pull the pitchers "apart" as they were blocking new pitchers trying to get up as well - and I'm sure the restricted air flow..) however, it is right next to an open but screened "window" - there are 4 - 3 stay open at all times, and I have a large oscillating fan that is on a timer that runs daily, and the airflow ALWAYS hits that particular plant. As this one tends to be one of the crown jewels of my collection, I'm eagle eying it. Any suggestions as far as what an affective fungicide might be...I've got Benomyl, but I was hoping for something less toxic! Also what other insecticides to you use, outside of Isotox?

Hi Rich,, Most Sarracenia will develop a greyish/blackish mold on the nectar areas around the lid, lip and throat at times. This seems to happen as temperatures get warmer and the pitchers are older. I wouldn't worry unless you see the leaves themselves being affected. Usually, a VERY light scrubbing with warm water on a soft cloth will remedy the problem without use of chemicals.... Brian
