Was both happy and worried about the welfare of sarracenias in the Osceola National Forest after taking a quick trip this morning. When I first entered I noticed that areas where I had previously seen vast stretches of sarracenias and orchids had been bulldozed and planted in winter oats, rye, and crimson clover. But after driving for an hour I was able to photograph Sarracenia minor and its wonderful companions. Also included some pictures of the companion plants: When I finally came upon a plentiful area of S.minor I noticed a number of homes (in the middle of the national forest.) A lady drove by stating that because of "trouble" in the area she wrote down the tag numbers of vehicles that approached her "neighborhood." I asked her if she leased from the forestry service and she confirmed that she did. This is a huge forest (200, 000 thousand acres.) When I was in high school my parents enrolled me in a summer work program ("You're not sitting at home doing nothing," my parents explained!) so maybe this was an exception-I hope. I have seen the Rosebud Orchid (Cleistes divaricata) and even though it is not supposed to inhabit Columbia County I've seen Sarracenia flava here too. Think next week end I'll check out the Florida Trail near Ocean Pond. Will share photos of what I find.

Hey Buck, Fantastic photos and trip! It's good to see that Sarracenia minor and the other various CP are still doing well there. Did you by chance see any P. lutea? They seem to be more prominent in Volusia county than in the Fl. counties south of Volusia. Thanks for sharing those! Brian

I didn't see Ping.lutea on that trip but am planning a return trip in a week.
I called the forestry office and told that they have ATV trails so I'm going to pick up a map Friday and the following Friday hope to return. I've got a Kawasaki Mule and my parents are going to take theirs too for a day of it.
Still hope to find the Rosebud orchid to photograph for Jeff.
