Ophrys apifera is native to the UK and commonly known as the Bee Orchid. It grows in a wide range of habitat on chalk, clay and calcareous sand, in grassland, scrub, sand dunes, limestone pavement, roadside verges, abandoned quarries and industrial waste ground where there has occured a base-rich substrate. Although most sites are well-drained, it can also flourish in damp areas. Use this link for more information and a short video on Ophrys news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8632814.stm Ophrys apifera

This one opened this morning They always appear to be very happy. Perhaps this is because they can self pollinate and normally do.
