Several USA Pinguicula /new pictures

Hi all ,

after the forum was not working for a longer time i could not show the pictures in this forum. I´m really happy that the forum is working again, good job Brian.

Here are the pictures from the last 4 months. Perhaps a few of you have seen them in other forums but i decided to show them here too.

P. lutea ´US Hwy 19N, Hudson, Pasco Co., Florida, USA´








flowers from another plant, same location but with red sepals




and here a flower from last year, but this plant was without location data, it´s also looking slightely different


after flowering a few of the plants splitted into 2 or even 3 growing points



P. lutea from ´Citronelle, Alabama´ has also flowered a few weeks ago; the plant itself is much smaller in diameter and it´s somehow forming a stem. Of course the flower is also yellowish (slightely different from the others) but i´ve noticed a very strong scent , much stronger than in any other location form of P. lutea i´m growing or any other species.

And a white coloured flower, really strange, this plant only produces white flowers for the moment.



My P. caerulea ´Newport´ is now flowering for the fifth time and the last flower is really strange, a kind of "double flower". The flowers have not opened till now but here are 2 pictures of the emerging flower stalk. I have seen something like this in the case of mexican Pinguicula but till now not for the south east USA Pinguicula.




The flower scape is also double (the one in the middle).


These days i´ll show pictures of the fully opened flowers too.

what to say more : merveilleux ;D

this double scale is known in FRANCE like 'fasciation' in fact malformation to the apical meristeme .

I already had the problem on grandiflora subsp grandiflora , it is a ephemeral problem, not reproducible in my case


for your lutea with red sepals ,the phenomen is peren ? Can you tell me if the parent had these red sepals ?

Jeff, the first four flowers have been looking absolutely normal; in the moment 2 additional flowers are emerging at the same time, both of them seem to look normal (yeah, so there will be at least "7" flowers this season, that´s really great).
The flowers have opened completely now and it´s visible that there are 2 fully developed flowers with 5 sepals on each of them. For me this "double" flower is not a problem, the opposite is the case, i´m really happy about this, it really looks interesting. These days i´ll show some pictures.

I´ve received seed of P. lutea ´US Hwy 19N, Hudson, Pasco Co., Florida, USA´ about 2-3 years ago. From about 20 seed 14 germinated.
I don´t know exactely if this P. lutea is forming only such flowers (from this location it´s the only one with red sepals), this season it flowered only one time, but i think to remember that i´ve had such a flower last season too but i don´t remember if it has been the same plant, what a pity.
Next winter we will see if it´s the case. I´ve selfed this plant and i´ve already sown out a part of the seed. It would be really great if these plants would also have such interesting flowers.

Hi again,

the double flowers opened about 11 days ago, both flowers are fully developed.
This plant is not stopping to flower, it´s flowering since January, 2 new flowers are emerging, so all in all there will be at least 9 flowers, really great.

The left one was a little bit faster.



















I hope you like them.

Brian, the clone from Volusia also opened it´s first flower (but it didn´t opened completely), 3 more plants will flower these days too, one of them will have 4 flowers at the same time, really strange.
Next week i´ll show perhaps a few pictures, the flowers are slightely different.

in french it is a 'fasciation' case for caerulea .

I wait for the next year to know if these 2 ping caerulea 'fasciation' and lutea (red sepal) keep there morphological caracters.

I think the fasciation no , here on the grandiflora subsp grandiflora this case is momentary .

The next 2 flowers that opened meanwhile are looking absolutely normal, but perhaps this plant will have such flowers from time to time, it would be great.

The first flower of the Volusia Co. form has already opened a week ago, it don´t has this yellowish touch.
When a few more flowers will have opened i´ll show pictures of them too.
