Have acquired a small Drosera regia. Am really cottling it and hope I don't love it to death.
Question: does it enjoy direct rain or does it prefer only wet feet?
Thanks in advance.

It is best to protect small plants from hard Florida rainstorms. Light rain would be fine, but we have some storms that can wash a plant out of it's pot very quickly.
Take care, Steven Stewart

Hey Buckcity, Steve is absolutely right! ;D Also, keep in mind that your D. regia is basically an intermediate/highland plant that comes from higher altitudes in South Africa. They like it cooler. Here in "flat" Florida, letting them get above 90F for long periods with no nightly cooldown will rot them. I bring mine inside under lights in the Summer, where they still tend to go semi-dormant. Keep just damp when growth is slow at this time. Steve and myself treat ours as outdoor winter growers here in tropical Fl. They love it between 40F and 80F and never too wet or in standing water.... I've had mine at temps as low as 36F, but wouldn't advise it! Enjoy your plant! Brian.

Thanks again for the advice.
Took it out of the greenhouse yesterday because rain is predicted for today (light this morning and heavy this pm.)
This winter it is holidaying in the greenhouse -outside during the day when I'm home.
Have it positioned in the greenhouse in front of the screen opening in the door. When the thermostat-controled fan draws in air the little King gets cool daytime air.
I was thinking about keeping it on my east facing porch during the summer but bringing it inside at night for a cool down. If it appears to suffer at all I will bring it inside all summer.
Again, really appreciate the aid.

Have had "Rex" for a couple of months now. Between it and a small Nepenthes northiana I've challenged myself as much as I want for a while. Well, maybe.

It looks to like your "small" Drosera regia is more of a healthy medium size plant now! You did pick a couple of challenging species to start with, if this is your first attempt with carnivorous plants! If "Rex" continues growing at this rate through spring, I think you might find yourself "hooked" on Drosera! There are a lot of species of this genus for you to collect. I look forward to seeing how you handle the sundew habit. ;D Thank you for sharing! Take care, Steven Stewart

Hey Buck,
Your plant should explode with growth over the next few months. Your next new leaf looks like it could be a whopper. ;D
Happy Growing,
Brian
