traps will die at some time piece by piece and they can make the capture move only a couple of times so it could just be age/to many movements. however this also happens if you feed your traps things that are fat compared to insects like beef. Other option is that the prey bit in to the captureleaf before it died, giving local damage.

Hi Justin, That will happen normally if the trap catches something a little too big. It's kinda like humans having indigestion. Make sure you do not feed it meat i.e. hamburger etc... Meat will cause the rapid blackening as well... Brian.

Thanks everyone I only give them small crickets! (If the traps haven't caught anything by themselves in awhile) And could I cut these traps off now?

No,
Let them digest as much as possible. When they're entirely black, then cut them off.
Brian.

Dear Brian I don't understand when you say "I wouldn't" when I say "Should I put my plants in the fridge for dormancy". I'm pretty sure a month ago C.P. plants should be in dormancy by now? I thought dormancy was thought months and they HAD to go into dormancy please explain! ~~~Justin~~~

Justin,
I live in Florida too. I've never had to put my plants into the fridge for dormancy. I've been growing these for almost 20 years!
Your plants will eventually adjust and enter dormancy once our weather here stabilizes and stays cold. You are worrying too much about it and Winter hasn't even begun yet.
If you want, put them in the fridge. But don't complain when your plants rot from doing so!
Just my humble opinion.
Brian.

Dear Brian[/b]
Alright I guess I'll listen to you for now on (20 years holy crap...) you must have one amazing C.P. garden! Ok well I guess I'll wait and when they start browning a bit I'll leave a picture asking if this is dormancy!

Dear Brian
My large Purple Pitcher stays damp so does the small one. My V.F.T. stays in water I guess I'll remove him from that and only keep damp soil!
