Hello, My two photographs of of Brian's Pinguicula lutea plants and flowers are not as high quality as those others have posted, so I started this as separate message. There is variation in flower/ sepal color to my eyes, and of the leaves on the two plants that I photographed. In the photograph that shows the plant, Brian's culture is as his culture for P. planifolia ( P. planifolia "weed" seedlings can be seen in the same pot.) The photograph of the flower alone, Brian grows in Sphagnum. If the eyes of the experts here see anything of interest in these pictures, tell Brian to take more photographs! I know he has more flowers! ;D Take care, Steven Stewart

Hi Steve, the pictures are absolutely OK, really nice flowers. Yes, i´ve also noticed some kind of variation in the rosettes and flowers as well. floridacpsociety.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=butterwort&action=display&thread=149Sometimes the flower colour is slightely different, different in size and also some mutant flowers appeared these days ;D. And the rosettes are also relatively different. BTW, i´m growing them in dead sphagnum too, they really seem to like it. Best regards, Dani

Dear Steve, there must be some P. lutea among Brian´s plants which show yellow flowers with white stripes!! Haven´t you spotted them? *hrhrhr* Comparing these plants with Dani´s I wonder what Dani´s in fact growing! P. lutea var. elongata ? And 14 cm in diametre!!! *shock* Can barely believe this! Is there perhaps a nuclear power plant next to these plants? Must grow this species, too, next year - by all means! Cheers, Andy

Andy, You must have spotted the ripening seed capsule, did you? ;D ;D ;D Also, did everyone notice that the plant is growing almost submerged? Happy Spring, Brian.

Hi Brian, After you have mentioned it, yes, now i´m seeing that they are nearly submerged. I´ll try it with some of my plants too. Is this your P. lutea "Volusia county, Fl."? How long are the flower stalks? It seems so as if they are relatively short, what would be really great. Andy, really nice avatar. ;D Best regards, Dani

for me no real difference .
2 morphological characters held my attention in P.lutea -in corol the white color (already named sp alba) and the yellow pale colour -the red dark color of the sepals.
now it is necessary to make tests perenity and reproductibility with the characters to be able to put a row at these let us taxon.
the corol and the leaves form if they are not very different from the type for me it is not a great character . all the more for the leaves which with strong or weak light changes form. it is very visible “on the ground” in Europe also on very common species as will grandiflora subsp grandiflora.;D
DANI the pedicels norme in P.lutea is from 130 to 310 mm tall.
in the nature perhaps more according with the accompanying vegetation.

Andy, You must have spotted the ripening seed capsule, did you? ;D ;D ;D Of course, Brian! So, the P. lutea "Goliath" is still in work, huh? LOL Currently I´d have only two small P. caerulea I could experiment with. Shall I rise the water level so half of the rosette is underwater? The other ones are flowering and I am not fond of risking too much with them. Andy, really nice avatar. Glad, someone noticed it! Finally I´ve found a stuffed animal with the same look of his eyes as me! ;D Andy

Hi Andy,
Yes, I would experiment with keeping the water higher on your smaller plants. I think there's something to this "submersion" thing. It may work on most Pings. At any rate, I'll find out! ;D
Also, it looks like your avatar may have had a few beers or Yagermeister? ;D ;D ;D
Happy Growing,
Briiiiian.
