Hi Friends, Here's an interesting field shot 'in situ' of Pinguicula lutea 'pale flower', showing glandular areas on the corolla... I've also noted the same instance on Pinguicula macrophylla flowers, on the edges of the petals. Very interesting! Here's Pinguicula macrophylla. Note the glandular petal edges... Happy Growing and Holidays to all, Brian.

Hi Brian, really nice pictures. A lot of Pinguicula seem to have glandular areas at the flower, but mostly near to the sepals, not so often at the edge of the petals. My P. lutea has had also glandular areas. P. primuliflora has them too, but only near the sepals. the mutant has them too P. mesophytica (emerging flower) on the outer side But there are also a lot of mexican species that even don´t have these areas near to the sepals. Or do you mean in the inner side of the corolla? I´m not really sure if i can see there glandular areas. If there are really glandular areas, it would be the first time i have heard about something like this. Best regards, Dani

Hi Dani, Actually, I was referring to the glands on the outside of the corolla tube on the pale P. lutea flower. There's a few visable on the right of the corolla's outside near the sepals, in the photo... Nice P. primuliflora flower shots, by the way! ;D Happy Growing, Brian.

Hi Brian, ah, OK, i understand, i can see them also on the left side near the sepals. But all in all, what can be the reason for these glandular areas, some kind of protection, but normlly the glandular flower stalk should be enough protection? I really like the contrast between the flower itself and the deep coloured sepals. If you remember the sepals of my plant, they have been green/yellow. Best regards, Dani

Bonjour BRIAN oh an excellent report , you are a big chief . following this report I would have a lot of question to pose to you ;D do you grow this P.lutea "pale flower " with these dark red sepals ? 'in situ' you have green sepals or dark red or between these 2 colour for the P.lutea normal form? you find these 3 forms mixed on a same station ? various medium and sunning for these 3 forms ? excuse me for all these questions , for me it is very very important to know, others by e-mail ;D
