Hello Friends, Well, I do believe that I've made another interesting discovery within the genus Byblis, that to my knowledge is undocumented until now. A full report on my findings and experiments can be viewed on The Florida Carnivorous Plant Society website under 'The Byblis Chronicles'. Here's a direct link to the page; www.floridacarnivorousplantsociety.org/thebyblischronicles.htmHappy Growing, Brian Barnes, President/FCPS.

Hi Brian, great discovery, congratulation. It must be some kind of protection after you must stress it to smell the odor. But the second reason is also possible after the areas with the strongest odor have the most insects trapped. Best regards, Dani

Thanks Dani, I'll be offering some clones and seed of Byblis 'Goliath' in Spring if you or anyone is interested. I'm propagating tons of plants now... Happy Growing, Brian.

Hi Jeff, Currently, I'm growing two forms of Drosera indica given to me by a good friend, that originally came from Allen. Although the seed is around one year old, I had 70% germination. So personally, I've had no problems with seed viability. Allen and I do communicate and i will soon be growing around 50 or so different forms of B. filifolia, B. lamellata, B. guehoi and B. aquatica...Time to build a Byblis greenhouse! ;D
Happy Growing, Brian.

Hi Brian and Jeff, That sounds really good. ;D Of course i will be interested too. About seed from Allen, most of his south American species are not germinating because they are not fresh enough, but i must add that some of these species, even if they are stored in the right way, are decreasing their germination rate very fast. Some of the species are not able to germinate after 2-3 months, for example D. grantsaui, hiticalyx and meristocaulis. So you can be sure that his Tepui Drosera seed will not germinate at all. But with other species i have relatively good experiances. I have some petiolaris species from him and my P. lutea seed was from him too. You have to choose seed from his list that is offered for the first time, in this case they will be definitely fresh and will germinate. Best regards, Dani
